Few questions running IT infrastructure in Azure

Hi our company is considering moving to the Azure cloud. There are some questions that I have not been able to find answers to.

Before I start my questions, here I have the wanted setup for our infrastructure:

Before somebody starts pointing things out that you can host your DNS and AD in Azure, I like to point out that we are building a new company application as we speak and it will be soon released in 6-12 months which why we will retire these servers and roles after this is done. To be precise because of the old age of the servers we need to run a temporary solution before the new application is reliable and up and running.

Existing 3 servers in existing environment are running on Hyper-V and VMware ESXI 4.1 platform.

So coming back to my questions. (I like to point out here in the beginning that I am new to Azure so sorry if some of my questions are stupid)

1) There is support options when you use the “pricing calculator”

“STANDARD PLAN” do I really need it? if not can I suddenly take the option into usage if I suddenly need assistance? Or what is the best approach about this? Any recommendations?

2) Backup plan and disaster recovery options? (what is the cost of usage) only found site recovery and backup options that you are supposed to back up to Recovery Services vault. Is this only meant for hybrid scenarios or?

3) Additional question for number 2. What is the cost of restoring specific files and whole server? (I did not found out this information)

4) How are the Datacenter Disaster recovery plans made for virtual machines?

5) Because our companies are operating in two locations in the world there probably needs to have 2 Azure “VPN services” in usage? To handle the traffic between the firewall and azure.

6) Because lots of our users are using the application from server 8 and 10. How is the traffic cost determined. My understanding that you pay only for data that goes out from Azure? does this even apply if you have Azure vpn service between?

7) Additional question for number 6. Is there a smart tool or application to calculate the needed traffic between an application and a computer?

8) Separate offsite backup solution in Azure? Can I for example backup my virtual machines to another datacenter?

9) IP addressed needed in my setup scenario? Do I need 3 public ip for the 3 servers or is public 1 ip enough?

10) Do I need an Azure virtual firewall between the 2 office and the 3 windows servers? Or is Azure vpn taking care of all of this?

11) About data, somebody told me that in azure there is the possibility to put the settings so on that the data will never leave Europe? is this a myth or true?

12) If I set for example the virtual machine 740 Hours available, the server. Can I for example set a job “task scheduler” that will shut down the server every day at 11pm and start the server up again at 6am? (you could save money doing this right?)

13) Is the SQL Database needed for my setup scenario?

When replying please also include link for more information about the subject. Thanks in advance

Just let me know if any of my questions is unclear
