Hopefully someone can help me as I've been pulling my hair out over this one for a couple of days.
I'm trying to setup synchronization between my on-premises active directory domain and a Windows Azure AD domain and am unable to get the DirSync.exe program to install. I messed up the install the first time and then uninstalled the program via the add/remove programs on my server. When I attempted to re-install the program I keep receiving the error "The setup wizard detected a previous installation of the Directory Sync Tool. The previous installation is incompatible with this newer configuration of the Directory Sync tool." Things I have tried so far:
Remove the program via Add/Remove programs
Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Windows Azure Active Directory Sync
Uninstall all instances of MSSQL
Remove the directory C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\
Reboot the server
Remove the users & groups that are created during the install of DirSync
Removing the Active Directory Federated Services role
Even after all these steps the DirSync program refuses to install stating that there is a previous installation. I am running Server 2012R2 with all the latest updates installed. If anyone can shed some light on what I need to do to install this program and get Azure AD up and running I would greatly appreciate it.
